Two of these team members are from Norway, one from Latvia, and one from the United Kingdom. When Team Secret CEO John Yao signed 13 year old Kyle “Mongraal” Jackson, he didn’t know he was a minor, let alone 13. Mongraal is about four years younger than the next youngest person on the team, making their ages 21, 20, 17, and 13.
Mongraal has been a gamer for about four years, making him nine when he first picked up a controller. His game of choice was Call of Duty, but he has recently picked up Fortnite and has clearly excelled enough at it to get the attention of Team Secret.
One thing that could cause some worry is the possibility of Epic Games releasing an professional league for Fortnite and there being an age restriction. For example, in the lengthy leak of the Overwatch League Code of Conduct, it was revealed that players had to be 18 to be able to participate in the League. Yao himself is not all that worried, however. He has stated, “It doesn’t worry me a little bit. But even if they have restrictions like that at the publisher level, there will be tournaments where there will be no age limit.”
Until Epic Games has officially announced a league for Fortnite, Team Secret will stay in the shadows of small tournaments and playing together, practicing for when their big moment comes.
